There is a chapter in Brushstrokes in Time set in 1990 in a so called ’Re-Education Centre’. My novel was published in 2016 so, in fairness, I added an authorial note I titled ‘The Changing Face of China.’ I wrote that the communist dynasty remains in power but the EMPEROR HAD GONE. Oh dear! The emperor has returned – Xi Jinping will NOT leave when his 10 years are up. In his early years in power he abolished the Labour Camps and the One Child Policy. It looked like a good guy was in charge. Guess what? The camps have returned – not it seems for everyone – but for Muslims in Xinjiang

Rumours abound that slave labour from the camps are being used to build the road through Pakistan. Local labour is not being employed but it is dificult to prove.
